The U.S. Postal Service announced earlier this week that among the 102 stamps to be issued in 1994, nine will honor blues and jazz artists. Those to be so honored are:
B.B. King Muddy Waters Billie Holiday Mildred Bailey Howling Wolf Ma Rainey Jimmy Rushing Robert Johnson Bessie Smith
I note that all of the above, except B.B. King, are dead.
Nat "King" Cole will also be so honored but is apparently considered a "pop" artist(!).

I saw the Wolf and said, "YYYaaaaaaaa howl for me baby!". He has always been one of my favorite harp players. There is some discussion on the BLUES-L forum about putting Little Walter or Sonny Boy on the stamp instead. My vote is for the Wolf. Not enough recognition.
