I'm sorry to say but Charlie Musselwhites playing has never really impressed me. His intonation is almost always off. I've seen him live many times and he was extremely intoxicated several of those times. He used to tour with the Dynatones and that was the reason to see him. I admit I haven't seen him in the last 5 years. People can change. Christo Redemptor is one of the best harmonica showcase pieces ever recorded.
I use a rack mount Alesis MidiVerb for delay. It also has very good flange and chorous capabilities. You can really get different feeling sounds using something like this.
I think harmonica is one of the most dynamic instruments going. Lots of harmonica players play rythmn and horn part fills. I play in a 3 piece trio. the band would fall on it's face if I didn't play most of the time. (no, I'm not talking about my ability, just my role) I also play in a 6 piece straight ahead blues band. I play a lot. I play behind peoples solos just like they play behind mine. Millions of creative people play guitar. the world is very aware of the capabilities of guitar in music. Our job as harmonica players has to be to show the world that the harmonica is not a limited role instrument. To get the musical world to treat us equally. We're not talking timpani here. Now there's someone who's going to sit around waiting to play. FJM
