Subject: 1896 Maintenance

I found the tips on maintenance posted recently quite interesting,
but I do have a problem: I want to remove the coverplates off one of
my 1896 Marine Band but the little screws won't move. Somebody
suggested that they might not even be real screws. Any advice?
