On Dec 28 Steelpenny mentioned his interest in hearing Artie Shaw's "Nightmare" on harmonica. While I am not aware of that particular tune being recorded by anyone on harmonica, there is a good chance that someone has done it. But it reminded me of the many big band tunes that Charlie McCoy has recorded over the years on his various albums - one of which is another Artie Shaw tune, "Summit Ridge Drive", which appears on Charlie's 1976 album, Play It Again Charlie, and which also includes "Wabash Cannonball". Having said that, following is a list of some of those big band tunes and the albums:
T.D.'s Boogie Woogie - The Nashville Hit Man (1974) - Monument KZ-32922 - Charlie McCoy's Biggest Hits (1978) - Monument MG-7622 - Charlie Live In Paris (1992) - PSB Disques PV-92318 Ô h) ÔŒRuby - The Nashville Hit Man (1974) Monument KZ-32922

Charlie has also recorded many other tunes not usually associated with "country" that may be of interest, particularly his 1975 album, Harpin' The Blues, in which he pays tribute to Little Walter, whom he mentions as one of his biggest influences in music. Some of the tunes are: After Hours; Basin Street Blues; Columbus Stockade Blues; Tribute To Little Walter; St Louis Blues; Blues Stay Away From Me; Night Life; Working Man's Blues. However, he also does:
Juke - The World of Charlie McCoy (1967) - Monument SLP-18097 - Charlie My Boy! (1975) - Monument KZ-33384
Long known as a studio musician in addition to his role as band leader, and Music Director of TV's Hee Haw show for many years, he can be heard on many records, such as: Ô h) ÔŒRoy Orbison's "Candy Man" (1961) and "Blue Bayou" (1963) Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job And Shove It" (1977) original version, though Phil (P.T.) Gazell was heard on Johnny's later versions. Anne Murray's "Nevertheless" (1980) George Burns' "The Arizone Whiz", "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine", and "A Real Good Cigar" (1980) Dan Fogelberg's "Sutter's Mill" and "Shallow Rivers" (1985)
As stated in my earlier post, all of Charlie's albums are available directly from him at: PO Box 350, Pegram, TN 37143.
