Well, if you want instruction it's better to get the CD; if you want to make music you'd better buy the harps ;-) I wouldn't get the CD without the book that goes along with it. The book is very good. I'd say it's a little more basic than "Improving Harmonica Technique", but covers mostly different things. BTW, the Improving.. book has an associated cassette.

The nice thing about the CD (or tape) is you can hear what the tab is supposed to sound like--that and you can play along for practice and know if you're doing okay. This especially helps if you're unsure of timings (e.g. swing rhythm; tripletts), what a technique should sound like, e.g. for bends or vibratos ("was *that* _it_?), or simply prefer to play by ear.]
