Hey Harpers, J.Hanson mentioned an old record I've had in my collection for years entitled "Lots more Blues, Rags, and Hollers". It's a pretty awesome recording. Tony "Little Sun" Glover blows some taseful harp. But IMHO it's "Spider" John Koerner and Dave "Snaker" Ray who really make this album. There's lots of fast paced talkin' blues here. Great stuff. (I only wonder how these guys got their funky blues nick-names). (I don't wanna know how Magic Dick got his). Glover is indeed still actice in the music scene. I recently picked up a CD featuring Glover and Ray back together again called "Ashes in my Whiskey". It's perfectly presentable. It's nice to see that they're both still making music. But I have to say, I don't play that CD a whole lot. I think Glover is a respectable harpist. I like some of his taste in the blues. (I remember him making a point of really preaching against "over-playing" in his book. A point I certainly agree with). But I have to respectfully disagree with J. H. and say, I wouldn't recomend any of Glover's books to anybody. He also has a book out called "Rock Harp". Guess what. It's "Blues Harmonica" with a new cover. Both versions of this same book are simultaeously available for sale. When I picked up "Blues Harmonica" 20 years ago it was the only harp book around. As such it was useful. But as many on this list have pointed out, it has its share of misinformation. It is indeed archaic. How could it not be? It has never been updated. (Wait till he tells you how much harps cost). He also uses this "cool- dude " prose that to my ears, today, sounds pretty silly. There are many much more informative books available today.
I like his music, but I don't "dig" his book, Rod
