Subject: AMPEG Reverberocket?

First, my thanks to responders to my message regarding harp amps. The info was
very helpful.

I am amplifying on-a-budget, and have been offered an Ampeg Reverbererocket 2
model GS-12R sn 017286. The reverb box has been removed (talk about irony!).
With my Astatic, it sounds warm and loud, but is not easily overdriven.

Any thoughts about this as an entry-level amp for Chicago-style playing?

As an electronically-challenged individual, I have some questions for you
techno-aces and amp history scholars-

I am hoping to replace the reverb box on-the-cheap, perhaps with one from the
pawn shop electronics salvage. Can any ol' box be inserted or is there a need
to match the box to the amp in some way? What about quality of reverb boxes?
Is it a problem to take a box that was originally mounted horizontally and mount
it vertically in the original position for this amp?

The tone controls (particularly the bass control) have very little influence on
the sound. Is this normal?

How old is this amp and what is the power?

Thanks-

Jim
