Subject: Ampeg Reverb-o-Rocket

fjm gave a good analysis of the electronics of this amp, especially
regarding the reverb. Here's my .02 .......

I haven't ever used this particular amp, but have used the Ampeg "Jet",
which may be slightly smaller. A guitarist friend had one temporarily
while repairing it so I tried it out. It was OK for harp, although it lacked
much treble response so it didn't "cut" through a band very well. I
personally have been more impressed with the various Gibson and
Fender amps I've used. An odd thing about the Ampeg is that the heavy,
bass - rich sound made it what I termed "sneaky loud": it didn't seem very
loud, but everyone kept turning up to be heard over it so the band got
louder and louder and louder..... Early 60's Jets and Reverb-o-Rockets
are attractive amps (Ampeg used a blue checkerboard covering) and I've
seen them advertised for $300 - 450. Don't know what a
reverb-less-rocket would go for.
