Hi.
This is my comments on many of the subjects floating around at the moment.
Bandmaster's are back? As a poor student (cue violins) this is good news for me. I'm sure LOs, Hohners and Suzuki Promasters are lovely, but being a student I can't keep going out and buying the good name brands, and I've found that the bandmasters I have do their job pretty well. Especially my D harp, not bad at all for #6, less than a third the price of a S20 here in England.
I haven't really experienced these 'fever blisters', but I do sometimes get slight irritations at the side of my mouth after playing for a while. I think this is caused by contact with cheap metals, a chemical reaction, rather than abrasion.
Maybe it's better with LOs whose plates are made from stainless steel, being more inert. Guess I should soon find ut, cos I've ordered a couple of LOs from Joe's Virtual Music Shop in the US. So much cheaper over there, even with the post and packing.
Finally, concerning Jon Gindick.
I was lucky enough to have Jon's book, Country and Blues Harmonica for the Musically Hopeless as my first book. A brilliant book, funny and informative and it makes learning harp so easy! Since then I've bought over teach yourself harp books, but none of them are as good. I guess if I hadn't bought Jon's book at the start, I would have given up by now. If you're reading this Jon, thanks a lot!
