Congratulations are in order to Harp-l's own Will Jennings whose band, Big Wooden Radio, has been invited to play this summers' Telluride (Colorado) Folk Festival. This is no small accomplishment since the Telluride festival is a premiere event and one of the major highlights of the many summer music fests in America. Not many of us will ever have the opportunity to play such a high profile gig (check the other acts in the lineup on the web page listed below).
Big Wooden Radio, which is based out of Iowa City, Iowa, have become quite popular in recent years performing throughout the midwest. Will, who is an excellent singer and a fine harmonica player, is joined by Dan Brown on bass and vocals, Sam Thompson on guitar and vocals, Joe Peterson on mandolin and vocals and Paul Cunliffe on drums. These guys are five very professional and experienced musicians who put on a great show. Their extremely tight four-part harmonies are some of the finest I've ever heard( ala Take 6 sans 2). Well-crafted originals (you gotta hear Will's "Waterbound") and a unique approach to covers make for a very friendly and refreshing listening experience. Will and Joe also do a wonderful job integrating the harmonica and mandolin.
Telluride, Colorado is one of the most beautiful places in the USA. It's one of those places that no amount of words or pictures describe adequately. Information on Big Wooden Radio and the festival can be found at:
