Subject: A bunch of questions.

Hi,

I'm virgin to this list so please be gentle. I play a little guitar, mostly
blues and folk-rock stuff. I was really born to be a ROCK STAR but just
wasn't given the talent (I suck), but I love to play.

I've decided to take up the Harmonica. They say your never to old to
learn, I guess I'll put that statement to the test. I started about a month
or so ago, been sitting back on the list absorbing everything, read the
archives, viewed a few tapes, read a few books. I guess I actually have to
practice to get anywhere. I mostly U-block, some puckering but it makes me
too tense. I have a few questions and I know they've been done to death but
obviously I've missed something. Please email me if you don't want to rehash
the subjects on the list.

Bending? When I pucker I can get maybe get a half step on 3D. Even then
it sounds like a goose undergoing some sort of torture. U-blocking I haven't a
clue how to get the note to move.

Recording? Recently there was a thread of the favorite top five recording.
Outside of mainstream artists (Muddy Waters etc.) I haven't been able to
find any recording such as Steve Guyger - Live at Dinosaur BBQ. I live in
the Chicagoland area (northwest suburbs - Arl. Hts). I would think I could find
anything in Chicago. Anyway, a mention of your favorite recording and
possibly where to get it would be appreciated.

Instructional material? Going though the archives a lot have been mentioned but
I'd like a feeling of what the members of Harp-L consider the best books, tapes,
and videos. Lessons or two is probably a good idea. Anybody in my area?

I'm also thinking about a chromatic. (Actually I'd like a Sax but I have a
headache most of the time and I figured I'd blow a vessel.) The CX-12 has
met with mixed reviews but I'm leaning towards it. I have yet to see one.
Nobody seems to stock them here. It was mentioned that the reed size is
different from the black and gold models. Does this effect the richness of
the sound? The price seems to vary quite a bit also. Overseas as low as
$53, in my area $130. Does anybody know where to get the best price in the
states? Am I making a mistake even considering one at this point?

Speaking of the Sax(above) I've been trying to find a recording of a lazy bluesy
Sax. The kind you'd find in an old PI movie. If you know any please give it
a mention.

Well I'm starting to ramble now. Thank for any assistant. I would also like
to mention that I've been on the Internet for a number of years and this group
is one of the best mannered and informative groups I've ever come across.
Even when mistakes are made it doesn't get malicious. I hope one day I'll be
able to contribute.

Thanks,
Reno
