Subject: broken reeds

For those of you who repair your own harps (and for others)...

I have boughten a few new Golden Melodies in the last few weeks and to my
surprise they have only lasted me that long. I used to be able to play
the things for months without breaking a reed.

The thing I have noticed in repairing my harps is when examine the
broken reed(s) they all seem to be broken at the base of the reed. This
is different from the broken reeds I have encountered in the past,
usually I find the reed has broken somewhere towards the middle never at
the base where it's riveted in. Another interesting thing about the
broken reeds, they all seem to be E's and D's. I spoke with Don Allen
lastnight and he has noticed the same with chromatics. Have any of you
noticed any of these things?

Well tomorrow night I get to reap the benefits from having attended
BHF. I have been asked to do my Howard Levy impersonation on the
harmonica. It seems a certain somebody I met at BHF told a local guy
about me. So now I'm going give it a shot at doing some brazilian,
bulgarian, east indian, greek and oriental music all on the harmonica
and in very exotic time sigs, 11/8, 16/8, 7/4, 25/8 I'm not really
prepared but it should be fun and a good challenge to bring out all of
the stuff I have been praticing in the basement for years. If anyone is
around all this will happen at the Loring Bar and Cafe in Minneapolis MN
tomorrow night and will turn into a regular gig if I succeed.

I have also picked up a weekly gig at Pepitos in Minneapolis. We'll be
doing latin, blues, and standards.

Harv you're welcome to come but don't touch my harps cause I'll... :)
