I've recently stumbled upon what looks like a very cherry vintage mic, a cylinder shape that's a bit clunkier and heavier than a GB, but with some promising possibilities.
It's a Turner Dynamic (made by the now defunct? Turner Mic company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa...I believe they were swallowed up by Collins Radio and Rockwell?) Model U 08.
It is currently fitted with an XLR chord, but on the back of the housing is an easily accessed screw head with color coded click-turns designating Blue: 30-50 Ohms / Red: 200-250 Ohms / Black: 500 Ohms / White: Hi-Impedence.
I've run it through my Fender Princeton by turning the switch to Hi Impedence and using an XLR to 1/4" phone coupler. It gives a very nice bullet like (even warmer) sound. I'd like to run it direct into our PA Board if I can with its XLR plug...sort of like a quick switcheroo depending upon if I want to haul the amp or go direct.
Any ideas as to what the various ohm settings mean, and how I should approach this with sound quality and gear safety (i do not want to blow our new head, board, etc) in mind? Replies to list if interest justifies, otherwise private?
