Bobbie states (with one minor gaffe, corrected) the essential qualities of a "pre-war" 16-hole chromatic, except one: wood comb instead of plastic. We could get into the materials-are-just-self-delusion thread, but let's not. Some folks like the wood comb.
Actually, this change in the note arrangement also affects the size of the holes in the slide and the length of the slide action. Doug Tate knows all about this and can elaborate if folks want to know.
By the way, I put 'pre-war" in quotes because, while this is the common term, I believe this design didn't change until sometime after the war, perhaps in the '50's. Anyone know for sure?
Cool news about Huang coming out with 14 and 16-hole models. I'll have to ask him about this.
