I try to avoid drinking while playing. While _I_ might _think_ I play better, taping myself and listening to it later tells me otherwise. Even a single beer makes a noticeable difference - and I can hold liquor quite well so it's not like I'm looped from a single beer.
Regarding wives and gigs, I bring mine to my gigs whenever possible, but she tends to go out shopping for a while when possible. It's not me - she just likes to shop.
