Subject: Billy Branch in Chicago

I caught Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues at Andy's in Chicago. The group
consisted of harp, guitar, electric bass, and drums. It was an excellent show
of Chicago-style blues originals, covers (HC Man) and a few soul tunes. Billy
played diatonics in second position with a vocal mike, Peavey solid state amp (I
think) and made frequent use of an octave splitter pedal (I think). His fast,
expressive solos with puckered sounding single notes, and strong vibrato
appeared effortless. His singing is also excellent. I strongly recommend this act.
