Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading the posts regarding Ella Fitzgerald. I frequently enjoy listening to her album of Jobim songs that included Toots on several cuts. Great album!
The post from Tom Troestler (Captain Tom) was very interesting, and I imagine Tom, as a captain, has a million stories like that one. Ron Kalina told me this evening that years ago he was playing a gig in Philadelphia with his trio, when Ella came in. Turns out Ron's drummer was also Ella's drummer, and she stopped in to listen. She told Ron she played a little harmonica, but that she should take some lessons from him. She even sat in on vocals, and Ron says they had a great time that evening.
