Subject: BWH/timbre

It seems clear to me that one of the vital components of Mr.
Horton's sound was his tougne blocking slaps and wide chords and
octaves. Certainly his signature tune Easy can be played by
valved pucker players but it won't sound remotely the same. I've
heard the tape too and while Mr. Curtis certainly has a nice
"resonant" tone it doesn't begin to evoke BWH in the way that
Annie Raines' tougne blocked stylings do. For someone looking for
"that" sound the 2 recent posts on the eureka of the bled notes
sound could certainly be a useful place to start the search. Both
excellent posts, both coming from a place of sharing information
rather than lecturing from a place of supposed superior knowledge.
