I believe it was a 10 hole harmonica, not a chromonica. He wasn't really
playing in a position, he just did an ascendind draw chord(moving from low
to high in pitch with a mouthful of holes while breathing in through the
reeds).

the sound was only death to the aliens, noone else. This has due to their
body composition. They were really hard and apparently RESONANT.(watch out,
MC)
