Fellow Harpers, While attending a local mountain musical fest this week end, I had the rare occassion to see close-up, something called a "Rolamonica". It is stamped made in USA in 1925, and then in another place it is marked Baltimore, Maryland. It is essentially a 10 hole diatonic harmonica that is inserted in a bakelight case in which there is a roll of paper with holes in the paper, similar to the paper rolls in roll type player pianos. You blow in one end, and turn a hand crank and the critter magically makes a tune. The lady that owned it found it in a trunk that she bought at an estate sale. Had it appraised at $275.00. She had several rolls entitled "Wedding of the Paper Dolls", "My Little Pal", "Turkey in the Straw", and "Pagan Love Song". I photographed it, and took her name and address for a short story that I'd like to throw together for the AHN monthly magazine. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this type of harmonica?
