I relish such opportunities.

The band WANTS YOU TO DO WELL. If they didn't, they would not let you up in
most cases. Of course in the case Jon mentions where the guitar player
drowns everyone out, you might not get his support since he might consider
you a threat, but in most cases, the band hopes you blow the walls down.

If you play well, the crowd will be happier and the band will have more
fun. If you suck OTOH, they can make fun of you for the rest of the week.
