wierd notes :-)

Simple - just ask them what NOTES are being played, and use these notes as
a basis for your playing. While you may use other notes, if you use them
as passing tones and always try to resolve to one of the notes of the
chord, you'll be quite safe. For example, a G7#9 can be played as either
a major or minor. A D augmented should prominently use D, F#, Ab notes,
and probably should end on one of these - but ending on a G clashes with
the Ab of the augmented.

You could play the chords as arpeggios. Play each note f the chord in
order, up and/or down. A lot of chords suggest scales that can be played.

It may well be that harmonica chords won't fit in with the chords they're
playing. You've mentioned nothing about style of music (jazz, ethnic,
folk, etc.), so it's hard to get more specific.
