Subject: Tounging Vs. Puckering

I'm really enjoying the debate back and forth. Everyone ( well, almost
everyone ) is scoring some good points. With so many obviously knowledgable
players out there, I'll limit my guru info advice for teachers.
If you have a class full of kids, take the advice of the over 3,000
Middle School students I have instructed in harp. Are you sitting on the
edge of your seats???
O.K. They won't do well with tounging IN THE FIRST YEAR because it's
too messy. It's that simple. I developed the straw method ( in detail in my
book for classroom instruction ) and kids make that work. Later on, they
will need to switch over to a more sophisticated method, but for that first
year..........
let's first get them hooked on the harmonica, then they will want to play
more musical ideas, and ask for more methods to do this.....enter tounging.
I'll give you more help or details if you e-mail me.
Always wishing my fellow players the best,
