At the moment I am using an MS Blues Harp in key A, an MS Marine Band
in C and a Lee Oskar in E. As well as providing a nice range of keys
with the basic 1-6 postions, I find that each of these harps plays better
in a particular range.
The plastic Lee Oskar has a nice bright tone on the higher notes that
none of the Hohner's I've played have had (and I don't care what a
spectrometer or whatever says about plastic combs, my ears tell me they
are totaly different. All the plastic harps I have played have been
'brighter' ie. reflect more of the higher frequencies, than any wooden
bodied harp). The nice large cover plates of the Blues Harp give a big, fat
sound in the lower key, and the fairly neutral Marine Band sits nicely in the
middle.
As I have been off line for quite a while, I was wondering wether or
not the new MS hohner's have been introduced across the range on the
other side of the pond. If not, this 'might' explain some of the
differences being mentioned over the last week.
As always, this is just what my ears tell me but then, we Manx are a
strange bunch, probably all those kippers or something.
