Subject: Re: Norton Buffalo Recordings

IMO, the two Norton Buffalo albums are some of the finest examples of
non-blues diatonic harmonica available and a must listen for any serious
player. Norton also plays fine chromatic. And, IMO, Norton's a much better
country harp player than Charlie McCoy.

Speaking of non-blues diatonic harmonica, Norton's solo on Bonnie Raitt's
Runaway and Magic Dick of J. Geils fame usually get all the bandwidth but,
again IMO, the best rock harmonica I've ever heard is Harp-l's own Madcat
Ruth playing with Sky King on an album called "Secret Sauce" in the
mid-70's. I've mentioned this to him a couple of times and he's played it
down both times. Sky King's music isn't for everybody, but the harmonica
has to be heard to be believed. Excellent musicianship throughout with
Madcat soaring(in 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions) on all but one song. IMO,
another must listen but the recording is unavailable as far as I know.
There are bootlegs out there which include another Sky King album and Sky
King's predecessor New Heavenly Blue.
