Thank you Mr. Hunter!!!! You hit the nail on the head. 3 octaves plus
chords. There's nothing wrong with minor position playing, I use 3rd
and 4th myself. As I mentioned I often switch from 3rd to natural minor
tuning in the midst of a song to change the feel. I'm constantly amazed
by diatonic harmonica player's seeming willingness to narrow their
choices and have less notes to use. Chorded lead is not something I
would ever wish to surrender. Nor would I care to lose the 4,5,6,
overblows that I've added to my repitoire. Adam Gussow pointed out how
useful they are in blues playing and he's right. They give you different
scales and different ways to get from here to there in solos. While
chromatic harmonica can be a useful instrument my personal voice is not
adequately expressed by the articulations available on a valved
instrument. fjm
