Players who are primarily chromatic players primarily seem to use the C
for everything. But there are a number of blues players who use
chromatics in what we diatonic players call 3rd position, and regularly
use chromatics in different keys, like Rod Piazza and William Clarke. I
don't think it's either unusual or particularly rare. This has been
discussed here in the past.
