Larry's disdain has not been mitigated by the years - he basically seems to
have no wish to understand the whys wherefores and whats of the diatonic, and
has, I believe, contributed in no small measure to the "my harp's better than
yours" thing that many players still involve themselves in.

OTOH - I remember standing with Jim Hughes (top UK session chromaticist) at a
British Championships some years back, during the diatonic competition, and
he kept leaning over to me and saying "How do they get that sound??!!", and
many jazz players have said to me that they wish they could get the chro to
sound like a diatonic.

I well remember playing Howard Levy's "Harmonica Jazz" tape to Jim - he said
he felt like throwing all his chromatics away and starting again (I just felt
like throwing all my harps away, period). So maybe those walls are starting
to fall at last.
