Subject: RE: Martin/Hohner Harp

On 9-23-96 Bradford Griffith asked:

>>While surfing the net today I came across an advertisement for the "new"
Martin/Hohner harmonica. It is black with teflon coated covers and other
features. Is this really something new or just an advertising gimmick?<<

Because Bradford mentioned Martin (Richard Martin?) and that the harmonica is
covered with teflon, I thought the only one who could answer his question might
be myself. It's not an advertising gimmick and whether this harp is new, I
would say: yes and no.

Remembering the extended discussion around Douglas Tate's "Renaissance", I
should be allowed to explain my teflon coated "CB 16" as well. According to the
harp-L instructions, it's not my intention to advertise but only to give a short
description of my designed 4-octave chromatic.

Unlike most chromaticists which prefer the 270 or similar constructed chromos,
I'm convinced that Hohners CX 12 shows the future chromatic shape. In Richard
Martins "Harmonica Educator", I have exactly explained the reasons. Because a
4-octave chromatic in the CX shape doesn't exist, I've designed this chromatic
by using modified parts of Hohners Super 64 and CX 12 models. The covering is a
homemade brass housing coated with teflon which results an excellent gliding
surface for the mouthpiece section. My CB 16 (B stands for brass) has the spiral
spring and the constant slide mobility the CX 12 is known for.

The price of a CB 16 or CB 14 (starting with the G) is of course somewhat higher
than of a CX 12, but by far less than 3000 $ or 2000 £.
