I've always thought it was a little more specific than that. Kind of like
the line in "The Rose" about her man coming home with the smell of another
woman on him, and Bette Midler says "I can smell another woman from 20
paces". If your woman has your nose open ... it's like keeping your
eyes open for trouble, only in the olfactory sense.

BTW, I'm not just talking perfume here. There's an old saying that smell
is 70% of sex, and many an unfaithful partner has been caught out that
way.
