Subject: Re: Electric Harp Case

Descriptions of an ideal harp case brought to mind a story Paul DeLay
tells about his dissolute days when he smoked cigars and drank oceans
of booze. He used to have a cigar holder in the middle of his harp
case. Sometimes at the end of a gig, he would mash it shut without
looking. Sometimes there was a cigar still perched on the holder and
sometimes it was not yet out. Eventually it would extinguish itself
but not before saturating the wooden combs of all his harps with cigar
smoke. "Boy, do they taste bad the next day," he told me, "and the
day after and the day after...." So, perhaps one should have a smoke
detector built into the ideal harp case.
