Subject: Re: no fun was had by all

Pretty much I can always find something sincere and nice to say about
virtually anyone's playing. Not true in Louie's case. There's my
problem I now have no opening line. Then there's the fact that this
isn't about playing music so much as it is about cultural mores. All the
real musicians left. The guy that complimented him was a guitar player
that only plays chords and covers John Mellencamp tunes badly. He
dominated the night too and chased off the real players. It's a complex
social interaction, sometimes the players go off in a corner and take the
crowd with them, other times they all decide it's not worth the trouble.
The one thing's about entertainment, playing Mellencamp tunes badly, the
other's about the interaction between the musicians and the observers
often miss that. Broad brush strokes with a hammer vs subtlety and
nuance. You hear what you want to hear when you're ready to hear it. Me
telling someone not in the mood doesn't advance my cause one iota.
Michael Snyder is obviously a reasonable human being and hopes the world
is peopled with his like. I don't think so. fjm
