Subject: No flies on Gus

Hey y'all...

Played a gig Saturday at Border's Bookstore (all hail the new, bookstore
venues), and throughout the performance a very attentive fellow with long
hair and stylish clothes seemed to hang on every word. He was so attentive
- -- throughout the changing waves of listeners that a whole night in a
bookstore brings -- that after the performance I went over to thank him.

He smiled; said he really enjoyed listening to good musicians and that
he was a musician himself. Warily I said "Oh? And what do you play?"
Well,....guitar and harmonica. "Gosh," I said..."you should have let me
know at the last break and I would have asked you to come up." He said he
couldn't improve upon anything I was doing. (Wow.)

So I said if he needed a backup singer sometime to give me a call. He
whipped out a paper; I gave him a phone number. He tore off half and wrote
his number, and signed it: "Gus."
