I don't think session work is any gravy train. The money is
not that great, but the demands are. When I've done it I've come away feeling
like an abused whore. You have to put out
on someone elses terms and do it NOW. Harp players with distinct sounds or
styles need not apply. The producers want what they hear in their heads, not
what you hear in yours. I have great admiration for the harmonia skills of
the session men, but not for their jobs. It always seems like a prestigious
thing, but those who commoditize their art pay a heavy price.
I'm not putting it down, but I'm not putting it up either. A lifetime of work
for a McDonalds commercial and $250 is not a particularly good deal. Jon
