Subject: The Sound of Plastic

TO: internet:harp~arply.com

Pat Missin writes:

On the subject of things that may or may not alter the sound
of your harp, I couldn't help noticing the comment Winslow
made about being able to recognise a CX-12's "plasticky" sound
across a crowded room. Perhaps in the harp-l sound library, we
could have samples of a plastic-combed harp and a wood-combed
harp and a reply form, then we could find out just how many
people can (or can't) tell the difference? Just a thought...

One thing to point out. It's not just the matter of a plastic
comb with the CX-12, but a plastic wraparound shell, as well. To
me there is a stronger difference between, say a 270 and a CX-12
than there is between a Marine Band and a Special 20.
