I have had the best luck with the Shure Green Bullet, However I modified an
Astetic for a friend of mine and it was the one with the volume control and
he believes his to be superior. I suggest you try a few out until you find
the one you like. Expect to spend between $75.00 and $150.00. As for
inexpensive amps I use a Peavey Blazer it runs about $100.00 and has reverb
an switchable distortion, works well at home and in my classes, I have also
used it at a couple of gigs with satisfactory results.
