Subject: Re: Clueless at the mic

I have almost taken offence at this line of discussion. While everyone
appreciates an artist that works hard to create a fine piece of music
there are times and places where the development of that art takes
precedent. Open mics can be a part of this development.

I often attend an open mic here in town where about half of the acts are
pretty hard to take. Now I don't sit there and roll my eyes or talk
loudly, because I know that person is going to sit there for me. The
people that
attend this jam are looking for an audience to play in front of,
to meet
people, and hopefully learn a few things about music. People go
there to
give it a try, not to be made fun of.

I am not suggesting that all open mics/jams are to be run this way, but
for the less accomplished, these places can provide a great way to get
focussed. If you find that you are coming in, playing your two songs then
getting "the hell out of there", then it's not the other people that are
in the wrong place, it's you!
