Subject: Just curious

A question (and a geniuine one, rather than a rhetorical piece of irony):

Regarding the wood v plastic debate - how many of those reading all this
stuff have experimented with redesigning the harp? I don't mean altering the
setting of the reeds, or playing with the tuning, but actually building the
things from scratch, or doing substantial customisation (including making
them from alternative materials, etc.). I know that Vern, Douglas and myself
have done some work on this (I have found many ways to make the harp worse!)
- - are there any other Dr. Harpensteins out there? I'm sure you must have
valuable comments to make on this topic (and others, I'm sure).

This is, of course, not to suggest that the experience of players is somehow
less useful or relevent (just before I get flamed again for something I
never implied ;-))
