A well-made wooden-bodied harp need be no more leaky than plastic, even unmodified. OK, maybe one hasn't been made since the pre-war MB, but nonetheless, airtightness should in my opinion be addressed as a separate issue from the material of manufacture. For that issue, special "leaky" plastic bodies could be used.
I have no problem with use of different techniques, with the caveat that the player should truly have no preknowledge of the harp body material, and some of the usual cues -- roughness and shape of the mouthpiece, for instance -- should be disguised. -jjt
