I have been a lurker on the list for a few months and a player for about 20 years. This is my first posting on Harp-l.
I read in the last Easy Reeding a blurb about replacement reedplates from Hohner. The write up talks of plates for $18.95 which will fit the "Cross Harp", "Big River Harp", "Pro Harp", "Blues Harp", and "MeisterKlasse" harps. The article says the plates where taken from the "Cross Harp" model.
When the "Cross Harp" first came out in the late 1980's it had a thicker reedplate and Beryllium reeds. Beryllium is a stronger, more elastic material. I thought these harps were great, in particular for manipulating the reed offset to facilitate overblows, best of all because the reedplate was thicker they seemed to produce a louder volume. Harp models have changed so much in the past few years that I can't keep them all striaght. Does anyone know if these new reedplates are the same as the old ones and have beryllium reeds? Does anyone know if any other harps are on the market with these caracteristics? I remember reeding a posting from several years ago from Jack Ely regarding a Hering diatonic with beryllium reeds. Did it ever make it to the Market?
