BTW, I also think there are a lot of intangibles with tone,
intuitive things like attitude. If you approach the playing trying to
project fun, reverence, joy, sorrow, sex appeal, misery or all of the
above, your tone, as well as your cadence, lyricism, etc., are all
affected. I think each song, and really each performance, has its
individual nuances reflected by the player's hopes and dreams as much as
anything else.
