I would have to disagree with Mike here. I have found that the closer
the valves are in size to the reed slot, the less chance they have of
sticking (less of the valve is in contact with the reed plate). It is
for this reason that I always use my own handcut valves made from Over
Head Projector acetate sheets. They are quite stiff and so require less
surface contact to stop them disappearing into the slot.

Though I suppose I should mention that when I play, I tend to
salivate in the Harp quite a bit, so my valves do get wet quite quickly.
But I have only ever had problems with two of my home made valves sticking,
and, upon removing them, I discoverd I had not cut them squarely.
