Subject: RE: RE: Re: Hugh's moniker

To whom it concern.

Because living in that country where the thing called "fuehrer" started his
partly successful attempt to turn the world upside down and the course of
history backwards and because some list members feared that Hugh as the lead
player of the list might has gotten a hit below the belt, I should perhaps give
some linguistic information about this irritating term. At last, I mentioned
Hugh in this connection too, without a historic background of course.

The term "fuehrer" in compound words like "Reisefuehrer" (travel guide) or
"Bergfuehrer" (mountain guide) had and has no political meaning until Hitler
was named with the term which has in all its derivations and compounds the same
meaning as the English "leader". The lead player in a harp trio gives normally
the starting signal. So what!

Interesting is that also the Italian dictator Mussolini was called "Duce" (lat.
ducere = to lead) and Fidel Castro is named "lider maximo" too. Generally, all
these "ratcatchers" get their names from the very same "rats" they catch
finally.

Actually, if someone had the intention in Germany to offend consciously another
German in connection with this part of history, he would not use the term
"fuehrer" but "nazi". The term "fuehrer" WRT Hitler is used in a more ironical
sense rather than as an offence. A remarkable exception is the Chinese dictator
Mao. He was simply "the great chairman" and in this quality he was only the
biggest of all other great chairmen yet active or already retired.
