Subject: Re: amp question

The guitar player in our basement band belongs to the amp of the month
club and I've played through his Blues DeVille (4 10"'s, about 50 watts)
a few times. I didn't notice any particular feedback problems, any more
than any other amp. The only problem I had with the DeVille is that it's
just too damn loud for subterranean playing. Since most of the walls are
unfaced concrete, it gets really noisy in a hurry. I was only able to turn
it up to about 1-1/2. 1-3/4 was enough to blow you out of the room.
(At least I was able to get myself heard over the guitar players though!)

Is there some radiation that comes out of a guitar that makes you have to
be the loudest sound for 50 miles???

As far as amps go, I re-recommend the Ampeg Jet. I believe Tom recommended
it here a few months back. I went out and tried it and liked it. (Get the
one with the tone controls and w/o the tremolo.) Excellent tube-y sound
clean when want, crunches when you push it. Not a lot of goofy controls, so
you can concentrate on your chops, not fiddling with controls. Plenty of
power for playing in bands (you can always mic it through the PA), I usually
have mine set around 2-1/2, unless the drummer is really into it. It does
feedback above 3 if you're not careful, don't stand directly in front or
behind, and don't put it on a chair.

Excellent sound, thanks for the recommendation Tom, otherwise I probably
would have ended up with a Fender Pro Junior, a nice sounding amp, but
the Ampeg is much cooler.....
