I've just discovered that the account registration stuff doesn't work if you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer (and maybe some other browsers as well). Thankyou to the folk that took the time to track this down for me.
I'm a Netscape man myself, and don't even have MSIE on my machine (well, I do, but never use it). The account stuff works just fine in Netscape!!
The symptoms of this are that after selecting your email address, you get dumped in a more or less empty page. I'll have this fixed by some time tonight (assuming I can get my NT machine running again - any Windows gurus out there who can help me with an install problem, please mail me off-list. Until then I'm stuck on my ancient Mac laptop which doesn't have enough memory to run Netscape).
If you are experiencing this problem and want to get your account going before I fix this problem, either ...
a) run Netscape
or
b) when you get to the empty page, the URL will look like ...
http://www.garply.com/harp-l/cgi-bin/account.cgi?harp-?[lots of other stuff]
If you edit this URL and get rid of the "?harp-l" (leaving everything from the second ? to the end intact), and try opening the resulting URL, it should work. Note that it may be ?harp-l-digest or ?harp-l-friends, depending which list you selected.
