I like to use it to record my own playing, maybe 4 to 12 bars at a shot, and
play it back. Brutally honest. Another take is just a click away, thankfully.

There are a few nice shareware and freeware audio editors, GoldWave is the
one that comes to mind right now. There may be a utility for time-only
compression. I will put together some links to them and post 'em later on
today.
