Hi Andy
I hope you or others on the list will say something more about "implied counter rhythms." I think I know exactly how you feel, I am always getting lost in rhythms picked up from the melody. This may also help to explain why I have so little patience with rap music-- without melody even the most complicated "direct" rhythms seem... well, dead somehow. Anyway it would be great to follow a thread on this subject.
Can any of the music theorists on the list define what actually makes up these "implied counter rhythms," and how to spot them in standard music notation? Are they noted (or notable) in charts? Realizing here that I don't even have the language to talk about this subject.
