When should you get a chromatic???

"Yes Madam, would you like your piano with or without blak keys?"

If you want to play music which is in the idiom of diatonic harp get a diatonic.
If you want to play generalised music get a chromatic and get it straight away.

Personally, I would advise a 12 hole chromatic in C, whatever you can afford.
