I'd like to start using a chromatic harmonica, and am hoping to buy in the near future. Having looked at the archives of this list, I see a number of messages suggesting some shifts in quality among different manufacturers of chromatic harmonicas.
My inclination is to buy a Hohner 270, both for its price and its wood comb (I'm hoping this means, as some have suggested, that it will have a better tone). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? One thing I worry about is that the wood may mean the harmonica doesn't last as long (my very first Marine Band is already cracking and swelling after only three months of use). Another thing I worry about is ease of repair - my Marine Band (the anniversary edition) came with incorrect gapping on the 1 blow, making it impossible to play, and I have yet to find a screwdriver with (1) a blade small enough to fit the screw and (2) a handle large enough to generate the torque I need to get the cover off.
Any suggestions appreciated.
