Subject: amp recommendation

Subject: AMP.... What to buy

Okay.... I don't really expect anyone to give me THE answer. It's
kinda up to me, I know....

But I've got about $850 dollars (U.S) in my pocket that I can-(must)
spend on an Amplifier.
but I REALLY want something bigger/louder.... (40-plus
watts/4x10 combo).... I've looked at several amps out there including a
Super Reverb, a Blues DeVille, Bassman RI, and more.... I must say that
the Bassman RI was the best sounding amp that I tested...
What are my chances of finding a used Bassman RI for sale in the San
Francisco Bay Area....?

Looking for some insight, or wisdom.... Not necessarily an "answer"..

Thanks in advance.

Dan, If you are wanting a used Bassman, why buy a reissue?

Best sounding new Fenders I have played through were a Vibroverb and a
Blues DeVille Hotrod model. The Hotrod has a really great overdrive
circuit.

SF is a big town. Have you cruised the pawn shops in the music district?
Small music stores will also have gems on occasion- just as often they are
overpriced.

The best advice I can offer, though, for music store shopping is: Take
cash, don't show it all, I sometimes have some in my pocket and some in my
wallet and give some to my wife. She doesn't need much instruction in foot
dragging if I offer a percentage of whatever she doesn't let the store get.
Dirty pool? Offer no more than 75% of the price they are asking. Be
prepared to go somewhere else. The stores would rather move the equipment
at a small prifit than have it sit there for a long time waiting for a
sucker to pay full price.
